The voestalpine Stahlwelt opened its doors at the headquarters of the Austrian steel company voestalpine in Linz. Conceived and implemented by KMS TEAM, the visitor center offers a unique experience of steel and the voestalpine company in an interactive exhibition and associated spatial installation.
The installation is centered around 80 chrome-plated steel spheres of a diameter of up to 2.5 meters, which are suspended in space in an arrangement resembling the molecular structure of steel. This smelter is enveloped in a 700 square meter LED mantle, which provides a lively and ever-changing atmosphere of light and color. Over four architectural levels, the Stahlwelt conveys knowledge about the material, its history and the voestalpine company through numerous interactive and dynamic didactic elements. These include accessible spheres set up as terminals, interactive handrails, and a vertical conveyor belt of exhibits offering insights into the value creation chain.
The planning and realization of the interior architecture as well as the media conception and production were done in cooperation with jangled nerves of Stuttgart.
