KMS TEAM developed an information system along the banks of the Isar river on behalf of the Munich Water Management Office. A total of six steel “Isartore” (“Isar Gates”) were set up between Grosshesselohe and the city center to teach the public about the river landscape. The inside walls feature panels with information on the river´s history, use, water quality and role as a habitat for flora and fauna. The gates also provide brief, easy to understand information about the restoration efforts that have taken place since the mid-1980s.
The main element of the information system, the “gate”, also symbolizes the new access to the Isar´s banks. Thus, the “Isartore” also provide residents with new perspectives.
As a public authority in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Public Health, Munich´s Water Management Office is responsible for the regional water management in the capital city and neighboring counties. The Water Management Office has an interdisciplinary team of civil and environmental engineers, landscapers, chemists, biologists and technicians.
