KMS TEAM developed a key visual and all communication media for the international program celebrating Franz von Stuck’s 150th birthday on February 23 of this year. The key visual is based on the Villa Stuck logo. The characteristic square symbol was rotated 45 degrees and labeled “Franz v. Stuck 150. Geburtstag” on all media designed for this occasion. Like the logo, the key visual is derived from the striking square in the historic rooms of Villa Stuck, found in the floor tiles for example. Another main design element of the anniversary communication is a well-known self-portrait of Franz von Stuck interpreted and inspired by the language of form of the artist’s villa. In addition to banners, posters, programs and flyers, the communication also includes a special edition of the museum’s annual ticket. The campaign will run for a year.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Villa Stuck as a public museum, KMS TEAM designed a 20th anniversary publication, “Stuckvilla” magazine, to give partners and friends an informational yet entertaining look at the museum’s history and future. All of the graphic elements featured consistently throughout the magazine are taken from the villa’s striking geometric details (tiles, ceiling panels, reliefs, etc.) A detachable poster with miniatures of all exhibition posters shows 20 years of Villa Stuck at a glance.
Villa Stuck is one of Munich’s public museums and a renowned space for art of the 19th to 21st centuries. Its historic rooms showcase an important collection of works from Franz von Stuck (1863-1928) as well as international exhibitions of Art Nouveau, modern and contemporary art.
Villa Stuck has been a Munich public museum since 1992. It is a foundation of the state capital of Munich with a donation from Hans Joachim and Amélie Ziersch. The idea behind the artist’s villa, which was built from 1897 to 1898, is the overarching work of art that connects life, architecture, art, music and theatre. German painter and sculptor Franz von Stuck (born 1863 in Lower Bavaria, died 1928 in Munich) was one of the main figures in the art scene around 1900. As a pioneer of avant-garde art at the transition between the 19th century and the modern age, von Stuck was one of Germany’s most significant artists.
